Coarse textiles, wood, clean cement, cold metal. Objects handled as if they were not ordinary. Provenance is part of quality — the makers and the farmers are named, because naming them is a condition of the practice rather than marketing.

Chadao, as living practice

Chinese and Taiwanese tea in the chadao lineage. Brewing is a steeping of essence: drawing out the essence of the leaf in order to evoke the essence of the person drinking. We serve tea rather than perform it. Character precedes technique.

Stereo, and why

Music played by people happened in a room, and that room was recorded. Two speakers restore the space that existed. Surround and multi-point systems fabricate one that never did. You hear the note, and also the place where the string was struck.

Heat, water, sequence

The thermal practice is a transition, not an amenity. People arrive at different distances from themselves, and heat, water and cold close that distance. It is therefore sequenced before the sound, never sold beside it.
